Homemade lotion that I turned into a shower smoothie
Sometimes Pinterest pins have me wanting to make items I don’t need at the moment just because they are so simple. I try really hard to make items when needed. However the homemade lotion using a mixer to whip it really intrigued me. I really did try to put it off due to having a lot of lotion on hand. I am so glad I tried it especially since it has another use in the shower like one of my Lush products!
I modified the recipe right off the bat. I used Suave Cocoa butter with Shea butter instead of the baby lotion. I need more moisture in the winter. I also cut the recipe in half because I accidentally only bought 4 oz. of vitamin E lotion. That is just perfect amount for me personally when not sharing gifts.
I bought the suave lotion ($2.78 and only used 8 oz of the 18 oz bottle) at Walmart, vitamin E lotion ($1.00 for 4 oz.) at Family Dollar, and had on hand the Traders Joe coconut oil of the half cup I needed ($5.48 for jar).
My recipe amount for Homemade Lotion/Shower Smoothie
8 oz (1 cup) of Suave Cocoa Butter lotion
4 oz of Vitamin E Cream
4 oz (1/2 cup) of coconut oil
Mix together with handheld mixer until it resembles icing. (using the suave only took about 2 minutes)
Store in air tight containers. I had bought a 6 pk of the containers pictured from dollar store … it is perfect for the shower and one for the sink.
I love the smell! Love the consistency! Its a tad greasy for a moment but does soak in to leave your skin feeling luxurious!
I then decided to try it in the shower like Lush’s almond and coconut shower smoothie. Love it! After using soap/shower gel grab a scoop of lotion and apply all over your body. Then rinse. Your skin is left feeling moisturized with no need to use lotion after shower. I didn’t notice any greasiness in shower but be careful of slipperiness.
The original recipe that I halved:
Homemade Moisturizing Lotion:
16 ounces baby lotion
8 ounces coconut oil (solid form, not melted)
8 ounces vitamin E cream
Thanks to the blogger for the original recipe:
I plan on making it next with only shea butter, cocoa butter, and coconut oil to be more natural. So be on the lookout for that blog soon!
